Advance Technique for Vibration Diagnostics of Planetary Gears: Experimental Verification

State-of-the-art approach to planetary gearboxes condition monitoring considers Time Signal Averaging (TSA) techniques as the basic algorithm for vibration diagnostics of planetary gearboxes. However, expansion of above techniques meets limitations for aviation gearboxes diagnostics due to high requirements for phase resolution and long-time data enhancement. To overcome these limitations authors briefly consider spatial impulse mesh model described in earlier paper for planetary gears modelling. In this paper an experimental test rig for planetary gearbox research and measurement setup is presented. Data development routines and results of experimental research study are considered. Diagnostic abilities of advanced STDD technique for detection of teeth damages in planetary gears are proved experimentally. Conclusions are made about effectiveness of STDD based diagnostic technique under limited time data, as well as possibility for monitoring and diagnostics in real time.
