摘要
This article reviews factors that have been shown to influence the development of long-term memory. Developmental differences have been found in encoding, storage, retrieval, and reporting phases of memory. These phases are shown to be highly interrelated with each other and with prior knowledge, level of language development, and contextual demands. A discovery process is described that can be used to determine the degree to which children's long-term memories vary across recall content and contexts. The authors also detail a method for determining which memory facilitation strategies are the most effective for a given child.
