摘要
Law 10.639 / 2003 is considered a social framework of Brazil, while it enhances the educational space as a transforming agent in relation to racist practice and mentality. However, after 15 years of its implantation in the country, it is perceived that the practice has not been as in the discourse and many institutions still do not develop educational actions with regard to this theme. This case study was carried out in a rural school in the state of Bahia with seventy six high school students and six teachers in order to understand what their experiences and conceptions about racism in the school environment and its fight through the enforcement of the law 10,639 / 2003. The results confirm the existence of racism in the school environment and awareness of this problem, both by students and teachers. Also, there is affirmation of the importance of the racial theme in education, but it is not perceived the accomplishment of the work directed to that end.
