Research on the Application of Kansei Engineering

The kansei image means the customer's psychological feeling as well as the embracing physiological issues. Kansei engineering aims at translation of kansei image into the product design. This research, based on the product developing theory of Kansei Engineering, extends the method of product design and applies the method to design new product. It mainly includes the kansei image survey, kansei image words and the design knowledge database. The kansei image words consistent with description of product kansei image are abstracted from factor analysis and cluster analysis by the kansei image survey, which is a questionnaire survey. The product form items are analyzed by qualitative analysis, constituting a style database. The corresponding relation of product form and kansei image is obtained by quantitative analysis from the subsequent second questionnaire survey, which will aid to design product. Finally, it is proven that the method is feasible and reasonable with an illustration of mobile phone design.
