Water recycling in Vojvodina Province - necessity and possibility

The reuse of wastewater in irrigation represents a rational option for additional water supply in the regions of water shortage, and in the other regions too, firstly because it represents an ecologically satisfactory solution. Modem management on pig breeding farms in Vojvodina Province, with liquid discharge technology, conditioned the accumulation of wastewater into lagoon. At the same time, contemporary agriculture means including also irrigation of growing plants. The investigation results have indicated the need and the possibility of farm wastewater utilization for irrigation. In this way it would be possible to ensure crop supply with nutrients, decrease of moisture shortage in the soil, environmental protection, and achieve significant economic effects. The changes in shallow groundwater quality as a consequence of using pig raising farm wastewater for irrigation are not more pronounced than those observed when applying mineral fertilizers.
