摘要
This paper investigates tactics of everyday life practice among elderly migrants in an urban community. The study employed a qualitative approach, specifically the narrative approach. In-depth interview and non-participatory observation was applied as the research instrument to collect data from 16 elderly migrants, living in urban areas of Khon Kaen province. The period of the data collection was from January to August 2017. Data analysis was conducted based on the narrative analysis method. The findings indicated that the elderly, who migrated from rural areas, conducted their lives in the urban community by using the tactics of designing their life style to secure their living. Tactics employed by the elderly included (1) self-learning by physical limitation, (2) creating a new norm to become the self-managed elderly. Those tactics were created in order to negotiate a knowledge set regarding the elderly, which was constructed by structural institution. Therefore, the tactics became a crucial tool that the elderly implemented in order to negotiate and interact with the policy on the elderly, caring system, and previous knowledge regarding the elderly.
