An overview is given of high-rate gamma spectroscopy as it is related to the field of activation analysis of short-lived isomeric transitions. The transistor reset preamplifier is a prerequisite for HRGS and gives optimum performance together with n-type HPGe detectors. Gated integrators are replaced as pulse processors for HRGS by the recently developed Preloaded Filter. A digital implementation of the PLF guarantees very good resolution, excellent stability and high throughput rate without A/D-conversion dead-time.
