摘要
Many manufacturing companies of today have to deal with requirements for greatly reduced product life cycles, high product variety, unpredictable demand patterns, short customer lead times and large numbers of critical components with high lead times. Of major importance in reaching these objectives is the implementation of informatics into business operations. As companies in wood industry are very much production-oriented, it is not a coincidence that in recent years the main focus as regards the development of informatics in companies has been on the area of providing information technology support to production processes. The purpose of the article is to show and analyse the existing situation as regards business (production) informatics in companies, to determine the guidelines for development in this area and prepare the starting points which should, and will have to be taken into consideration in carrying out the projects relating to informatisation of the production processes.
