SEARCHING FOR A NEW GLOBAL STYLE: FROM THE XIX TO THE XXI CENTURY

Modern architecture is characterized by heterogeneity of styles and directions. The crisis and decline of modernism led to the emergence of "modern eclecticism," the simultaneous development of numerous "styles". The leading direction is "nonlinear architecture". According to the architect and theoretician of parametrism Patrick Schumacher, this unstable situation in architecture should change the "new global style". A similar situation existed in the 19th century, when the problem of "style choice" was replaced by the problem of "creating a new style". In this regard, the analysis of the role of the "lessons of history" of the 19th century for contemporary searches for the "New Global Style" of the 21st century seems to be an urgent task.
