Further improvement of ship machinery plants reliability requires more information about the single component failure rates. Background information about conditions and factors during the failures can be delivered by ship engineers. In many cases the failure modes and the reasons have not followed the anticipated patterns. Further engineering is required to predict various operation modes and damage chains.
