摘要
The Saale-Elster Viadukt, with an overall length of 6.5 km, is part of a partially new and partially upgraded rail route that connects the cities of Nurnberg, Erfurt, Leipzig/Halle and Berlin. In this rail route, as well as on the Viaduct, there is the possibility of two trains traveling parallel to each other. In the case that two trains brake with maximum power while operating on parallel tracks and reach at the same time and place their maximum breaking power, it is expected that the superimposed forces will exceed the Viaduct's resistance. The present paper aims to explain the steps necessary to assess the annual probability of the above scenario accounting for the underlying uncertainties. The acceptability of the resulting probability is examined by comparison with acceptance criteria, formulated based on approaches commonly employed in the railway traffic safety.
