Supply chain security (SCS) management has been widely discussed among policy makers, supply chain practitioners and scientists since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. However, the extant academic literature offers only a cursory look on crime problems associated with commercial supply chains. In this study, we collect qualitative data from 18 senior level managers to elicit their perceptions on crime threats and problems associated with their respective supply chains. The outcome of this study is empirically developed and validated supply chain crime taxonomy that categories crime problems into six non-overlapping and collectively exhaustive classes by using criminal intervention as the basis for classification. The validation is carried out in a case study with a Swiss postal operator.
