摘要
Biometrics refers to identifying an individual based on his or her physiological or behavioral characteristics. A biometrics based system can be operated in two modes: verification mode and identification mode. The former either accepts or rejects a user's claimed identity, whereas the latter establishes the identity of the user without claimed identity information. Among many biometrics based methods such as face recognition, iris scan, speech recognition, hand geometry; fingerprint recognition is one of the most mature and proven techniques [8].A fast fingerprint authentication method is proposed, based on the core and minutiae detection of the fingerprint. The relationship between authentication reliability and region size is studied experimentally. A bank of Gabor filters, orientated to different angles are applied to the image to clean it from noises that can result on false alarms or authentication mistakes[11].Fingerprints are unique for every human being and could be used by security systems for recognition. Traditional security systems based on querying the known and static information about the person are outdated and automatic recognition systems based on unique characteristic and physical features are more preferred. Unique features could be obtained using the patterns present in the fingerprint. Using ridge structures, edge and fork points are evaluated as feature points and the layout is different for every person. This study includes fingerprint analyzing systems and application of a recognition system using Gabor filters with accuracy values.
