This article traces the history of efforts to harmonize the requirements of the Center for Devices and Radiological Health's (CDRH) Federal Performance Standard for Laser Products in the United States with those of the International Electrotechnical Commission's (IEC) International Standard, Safety of Laser Products, IEC 825-1.
