This paper assesses the territorial structure of patent holders during 2000-2012. It is focused on patents validated for the Czech Republic. The structure of patent holders is assessed on the basis of ratio, growth and other indicators. Those indicators are defined in the presented paper. Results are based on the data obtained from the Annual Reports and database of the Industrial property office of the Czech Republic. Main findings are that the ratio of valid patents owned by Czech Republic residential entities to all patents validated for the Czech Republic is decreasing rapidly over observed period. This occurs even though the number of patents validated for Czech Republic and owned by Czech Republic's residents is increasing over the observed period. The decline is related to introduction of European Patent, which also intensified competition environment in the area of intellectual property.
