GEOGRAPHY INFORMATION SYSTEMS AND TEACHING AND LEARNING GEOGRAPHY IN THE REPUBLIC OF TATARSTAN

Modern secondary and higher school is characterized by an active transition to using new information technologies. In the process of studies in educational institutions of Tatarstan within the frames of high-priority educational project "Education" IT programs are being brought to life, e-books are being worked out, technology of on-line education is being introduced. Among IT models shaping spatial intelligence digital maps and space images are presented. Teacher needs to master such digital educational tools in order to increase his/her professional pedagogical IT competence. Firstly, it is geo-information system (GIS) and the importance of its introduction is explained by new federal education standards. Using GIS technologies makes it possible to resolve the problems of developmental teaching. The aim of this article is to analyze using GIS in teaching geography at school and discussion of possibilities of wider introduction of GIS in teaching geography in Tatarstan.
