Measurement of KrF laser breakdown threshold in gases

摘要
High thresholds were measured for KrF laser breakdown in several noble gases and air, at focused power densities up to 3 x 10(13) W/cm(2). The dependence between the gas pressure and the breakdown threshold is in good agreement with the inverse bremsstrahlung absorption model for the laser energy. The measured breakdown threshold for helium gas at atmospheric pressure is 5 x 10(12) W/cm(2), for an 18 ns long, 248 nm wavelength laser pulse focused to a 9 mu m spot diameter.
