Architecture of Media Gateway for Frame Relay, N-ISDN, and PSTN interworking in ATM networks

摘要
The ATM network is expected to be the main transport mechanism for realizing future B-ISDN services. It can accommodate a variety of services including voice, data, image, and video applications in near future telecommunication. In initial stage, ATM networks coexist as separate networks. Therefore, interworking with existing networks is an essential element effecting the success of ATM. This paper presents an architecture and implementation of Media Gateway. The Media Gateway performs PSTN interworking, N-ISDN interworking, Frame Relay interworking functions in an ATM switching system. The proposed Media Gateway adapted concepts of Open Mufti-service System, which has been discussed at the Mufti-service Switching Forum. Proposed Media Gateway has flexibility to accommodate other types of interworking function by substituting network interface part while keeping the whole system architecture. The proposed Media Gateway is being in commercial service in our country.
