We must all be equal partners in the new age of genetics

COMMENTARY: Communities of color suffer from poorer health than white Americans, and by the 21st century African Americans and Hispanics will constitute more than one third of the United States population; however, only a very small percentage of U.S. genetic counselors are members of minority groups and there is insufficient participation of minorities in genetic tests, notes Ilana Suez Mittman, a genetic counselor and a clinical assistant professor in the department of pediatrics and child's health at Howard University.
