The paper deals with the development of the new 4WD drive line for a high performance offroad vehicle, It describes the concept and its background as well as the development process and tools applied. Some aspects of the design are shown. The analysis of the gears, bearings, shafts and housings for strength and for fatigue under load spectra is described. Furthermore the data acquisition and the tests performed in the fatigue lab, on the functional test benches, on the 5-machine drive line test bench of the Engineering Center Steyr and in the vehicle are outlined.
