Skopos and literary self-translation: a necessary reconciliation

In this article, we will use skopos theory, in the form developed by Hans J. Vermeer in Reiss & Vermeer (2013), to describe the translational choices of literary self-translators. We will first summarize the basics of skopos theory; we will then relate them to certain literary self-translation readings that seem to distance this practice from instances of "normal" translation, i.e. translation which is not made by the author of the source text. This will finally lead us to show how skopos theory can account for these differences on its own.
