Mistletoe lectins and radiation-induced micronuclei in human lymphocytes

Cytotoxic concentrations of mistletoe isolectins (ML-I, ML-II, ML-III) in various cell biological tests were determined. Slight clastogenic effects of the lectins were found at or above 10(-9) g/ml concentrations. The radiation-damage carrying cytokinesis-blocked (CB) cells proved to be more sensitive upon mistletoe treatment than the undamaged ones as detected through the disappearances of radiation-induced micronuclei both in cultures in vitro and in rabbits, in vivo.
