摘要
Nocturia is common in older people and it may be bothersome for both patients and carets. It is most commonly related to bladder storage difficulties and nocturnal polyuria. The former results most frequently from an uninhibited overactive bladder. The latter occurs as a consequence of age-associated changes in the circadian rhythm of urine excretion. The management of an overactive bladder includes both behavioural and drug treatment. The management options for nocturnal polyuria include an afternoon diuretic and desmopressin, but caution is required, particularly with the latter, as it can cause significant hyponatraemia.
