摘要
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the biomass energy system considering the effective utilization of resource for the fossil fuel substitution. Simple energy balance and energy return on investment (EROI) are used to conventional energy evaluation. However, the energy balance is depended on the system scale, and EROI cannot show the total system efficiency considering consumed biomass resource. In this study, the alternative evaluations are suggested. One is the effective utilization rate of resource that is defined as the energy balance divided by higher heating value (HHV) of biomass resource. Another is the fossil fuel substitution rate that is net substituted fossil fuel energy divided by HHV of biomass resource. As a case study, these values are evaluated using woody biomass, several types of preprocessing and energy conversion in Japan's Tohoku area. It is obtained that the effective utilization rate of resource and the fossil fuel substitution rate show the total system efficiency clearly, and how to improve the system efficiency.
