Research on College English Teaching Mode Based on the Combination of EAP and EGP

With the globalization of economy and culture, college English teaching based on EGP alone cannot meet the actual needs of students in college and universities in China. The current situation of college English teaching reform is facing three challenges, embracing the change of students' learning need, the change of social need, and the crisis faced by college English teachers. This study is designed to solve these problems by proposing a new teaching mode based on the combination of EGP and EAP. Starting from the theoretical basis of such combination and the relationship between EGP and EAP, the paper specifies the combination in terms of implementation of teaching mode, preparation of teaching material, arrangement of teaching content and of methods and faculty building. It finally highlights the importance of the new teaching mode that can be a helpful way for College English teaching reform.
