ASSESSMENT TOOLS TO DENTIFY THE NEEDS OF FAMILIES

Assessment of the situation of families is important if not even the most important activity of the social worker working with family. Accurate assessment allows providing accurate support and appropriate intervention. Although the needs assessment is an important part of social work with clients, in slovak literature there is not enough sufficient attention. The contribution explains two terms - diagnosis and assessment needs. Diagnostic tools, which are used for assessing the situation of clients in Slovak as well as foreign literature are discussed. Paper focuses on lack of the tools for assessment of needs in Slovak and opens the space for discussion about the implementation of the foreign diagnostic and assessment tools and techniques that would contribute to the improvement of social work practice in Slovakia.
