Fe/Pt multilayers with constant e(Pt) = 1.5 nm and varied e(Fe) in the range 0.2-5.4 nm are studied by Mossbauer spectrometry and X-ray diffraction. For e(Fe) < 2.0 nm, the Fe-57 Mossbauer spectrum is typical of a disordered magnetic interface phase. For higher thicknesses, in addition to this phase, a bcc iron phase is also observed, giving evidence that the thickness of the iron layer is thick enough to allow its centre to be constituted of pure iron. For magnetic spectra, the magnetic anisotropy was always found in the plane of layers.
