We prove the existence of strong solutions for a class of retarded partial differential equations of second order with respect to the time variable, and study the long-time behaviour of these solutions. We prove the existence of a global finite-dimensional attractor when the parameters of the system range over a ''large'' domain and investigate the dependence of the attractor on these parameters.
