Synthesis and Crystal Structures of Two Zinc(II) Complexes with the Schiff Bases 2-[(3-Diethylaminopropylimino)methyl]phenol and 1-[(3-Diethylaminopropylimino)methyl]naphthalen-2-ol

摘要
Two new structurally similar mononuclear Schiff base zinc(II) complexes, [ZnBr2L1] (1) and [ZnI2L2] (2) (L1 = 2-[(3-diethylaminopropylimino)methyl]phenol, L2 = 1-[(3-diethylaminopropylimino)methyl]naphthalen-2-ol), have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, and single crystal X-ray diffraction. The Zn atom in each of the complexes is four-coordinated by one phenolate oxygen atom and one imine nitrogen atom of a Schiff base ligand and by two halide ligands, forming a tetrahedral geometry. In the crystal structures of both complexes, molecules are linked through intermolecular hydrogen bonds of types N-H O, forming chains running along the b axis. The similar Schiff bases used in the preparation of the complexes with zinc(II) halides can result in the similar structures of the final products.
