A modified power management system for microgrids including load shedding

摘要
This paper presents an improved power management systm (PMS) for wind diesel hybrid system (WDHS). The proposed PMS includes reverse power protection of diesel engine (DE), battery protection by keeping the minimium value of state of charge (SOC) at ten percents, and also load shedding of non-critical loads in the case of generation shortage in the microgrid. The extra active power output of wind turbine, is firstly stored in battaries if not fully charged and secondly, is consumed at the dump load. The proposed controller for microgrid is simulated in MALTLAB simulink and its performance is studied in different generating and loading condtions of microgrid. The results show the effectiveness of the power management system in improving the transient and steady state performance of the microgrid.
