摘要
Colorectal cancer is Europe's second biggest cancer killer. Yet despite advances in knowledge and changes in chemotherapy practice, we have not seen great strides in improved survival. Histopathological staging is at present the most accurate prognostic factor for survival and recurrence. Improvements in staging have led to the recognition of the importance of the circumferential resection margin (CRM) and how the quality of surgery influences local recurrence rates. Further refinements in staging and increasing knowledge of tumour biology will have a large contribution to play in the future. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
