A high-power high-voltage pulse generator with high amplitude stability, pulse duration of 3 mu s, and front rise duration of 0.3 mu s is described. It contains a low-voltage double-step voltage regulator, a high-current switch based on a reverse switch-on dynistor, an intermediate step-up transformer, a quasi-rectangular pulse shaper based on a four-section artificial forming line with a saturable-core choke and a capacitive energy storage, and an output cable transformer with a voltage transformation ratio of 1:2. The basic performance characteristics of the generator are 500 Hz (maximum pulse repetition rate), 21-36 kV (controlled voltage range), 0.2% of the maximum pulse height (maximum amplitude instability of the output pulses), and 60 A (peak current in a load). The overall dimensions are 1.0 x 0.6 x 0.4 m.
