In the solid-state structure of the title compound, C16H11NO6, the configuration about the C=C double bond is E, and the two aromatic rings are inclined to one another by 67.96 (7)degrees. In the crystal structure, symmetry-related molecules are linked by O-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bonds, forming centrosymmetric carboxylic acid dimers. The crystal structure is further stabilized by C-H center dot center dot center dot O intermolecular hydrogen bonds, leading to the formation of a sheet-like structure in the ab plane.
