Verification of results of swaging process simulation

The paper presents some basic assumptions of the model which allows and analysis of the thermomechanical state in the deformation zone with the use of finite elements method for axial symmetry. The model has been elaborated for four - anvil swaging machine for primary processing. The modelling process takes into account the history of deformation for subsequent forming stages. The suggested assumptions and calculation conditions of the model have been verified experimentally. The obtained calculation results have been compared with the results of forging tests in industrial conditions. As far as the local strain is concerned the results of calculations have been compared with the results of measurements of strains obtained by the combined bars method Temperature distributions in the strip section have also been verified and compared with the results of pyrometric measurements of temperature at the bar surface. The forging forces have also been experimentally verified. The results of measurement proved to be consistent with the simulation results what confirms correctness of the assumption in the model. Calculations showed that simulation of the forging process in a swaging machine creates a rational basis for proper forging technology design, when safety of the process, as well as requirement for bar forging with an assumed strain and stress distribution at the bar section, are taken into consideration.
