摘要
Cool (not completely ionized) material exists in the "central engine" of active galactic nuclei (AGN). There is mounting evidence that in some cases this matter is in the form of an accretion disk. Recent observations indicate that some cool matter is also outflowing from some central engines. We argue that such cool matter may, in some cases, originate in the central engine. We calculate the line spectra from such outflows, and compare the results with the spectra from accretion disks. Some general relativistic effects are noticeable up to distances of similar to 30 R-Sch, due to a combination of lensing and gravitational and Doppler shifts. The skewed line profiles are reversed from the profiles of lines from accretion disks in the sense that the redshifted wing may be larger than the blueshifted wing. Future XMM-Netwon (XMM) and Chandra X-ray Observatory (CXO) observations, especially observations of high (m)over dot sources, may reveal such line profiles.
