The Byzantine reception of Aristotle's Categories

This paper presents, in chronological order, the works of Byzantine authors who commented, in one form or another, on Aristotle's Categories, and discusses their historical and philosophical importance. The Byzantine authors from the ninth to the fifteenth century, whose work is here studied, are: Photios, Arethas, Michael Psellos, John Italos, Theodore Prodromos, Leo Magentinos, Nicephoros Blemmydes, George Pachymeres, Joseph Rhacendytes, Joseph Philagrios, John Chortasmenos, George Scholarios.
