On the reflection of electromagnetic waves in a one-dimensionally nonuniform anisotropic medium

Equations for the electromagnetic held in biaxial and uniaxial one-dimensionally nonuniform crystals are investigated. Solutions for ordinary and extraordinary waves in a uniaxial crystal are derived in the approximation of geometric optics. Solutions for the magnetic field in the H-wave near zero points of the principal values of the dielectric tensor epsilon(z) and eta(z) are obtained. It is demonstrated that the reflection coefficient rho for a plate of a uniaxial dielectric is close to unity if the zero point of epsilon or eta lies within the region occupied by the plaits.
