摘要
Toppling failure had occurred during heavy floods at a steep cliff behind a waterfall of about 28m high and 110m wide formed by rock masses dissected by horizontal and vertical joints. The failure proceeded to the upstream year by year and threatened the stability of an intake dam for hydroelectric power plant situated about 20m:upstream of the cliff. In this study, an effective reinforcement system was designed by using DEM considering the impact on the natural beauty of the waterfall. The results of DEM analysis were compared with the measurement results during construction to see the practical usefulness of the DEM analysis., and as for the stable/unstable tendency and the toppling deformation mode, the DEM analytic results agreed well to the measurement results.
