By means of a number of examples drawn from the author's personal experience, many analogies that exist between gravitational (galactic) plasmas and electromagnetic plasmas are considered, so that progress is made based on a fruitful exchange of methods and ideas. A few key issues regarding the collective behavior of galaxies that still stand out as largely unresolved are pointed out as well.
