Simulation of low-power agitation systems for large-scale biomass conversion reactors

摘要
This paper presents the results of CFD simulations (FLUENT Version 4.5) conducted to identify the optimal design for an agitation system for a large-scale solids suspension problem typical of biomass conversion processes. The effect of impeller location, impeller speed, spacing between impellers, and the use of a draft tube upon the ability of the system to provide off-bottom suspension of particles within the power limits set by the process economics are investigated and critically assessed.
