Water District No. 1 of Johnson County, Kan., rehabilitated sections of unlined cast-iron pipe installed in the 1940s. Customers complained to the district about rusty water delivered to their homes. After two options were investigated, the cast-iron pipes and fittings were cleaned and lined in place with cement mortar. The water district and the customers that is serves are both pleased with the result: elimination of rusty water at a reasonable cost.
