Did those Austrians who served in the German Armed Forces during World War II see themselves as Austrians or as members of the, "Greater German Empire"? This question is focused on those soldiers who got in Soviet captivity. Some of them only returned home in 1955/56. The author demonstrates that an Austrian national identity did not develop among them during captivity but only after they returned home.
