Global financial markets are described and the reasons for their growth are analysed. Then follows an analysis of the efficiency of these markets. Particular attention is given to dynamic efficiency considering the financial innovations emanating from the markets and to the question of whether global financial markets have increased financial crises. An evaluation of the benefits of financial globalisation is provided.
