LT Code Based Forward Error Control for Wireless Multimedia Sensor Networks

摘要
Multimedia content is a combination of different forms of data, such as text, audio, still images and video. Wireless Multimedia Sensor Network (WMSN) is an extension of Wireless Sensor Network (WSN). WMSN is composed of wirelessly interconnected sensor nodes that are equipped with multimedia devices. WMSN's has a wide scope of applications, both in civilian and military standards. Reliable transmission of multimedia content over wireless channel is the major challenge. To overcome this, error control mechanism can be enabled to maintain the quality level of multimedia data transmitted. Forward error correction (FEC) error control scheme can be a suitable solution to enhance the quality of the content received with respect to the user. In this paper Luby Transform (LT) code, a form of fountain code is proposed for WMSN, which generates potentially limitless redundant packets. The Receiving node recovers the multimedia content with the help of these packets. Proposed LT code achieves a better quality level compared with standard Reed Solomon (RS) code. The Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR) and Structural Similarity Index Metrics (SSIM) is evaluated.
