The maximum principle for positional controls and the problem of optimal system synthesis

An analogue of Pontryagin's maximum principle is derived in the class of positional controls (functions of the phase state and the time [1]). Corresponding adjoint first-order linear partial differential equations are presented. The use of the necessary conditions of optimality to synthesize optimal systems is described.
