摘要
Transition phases are components of segmented educational system. There is no common definition for these phases. They are defined as particular life periods" characterized by complex structures of change that influence the individuals in interaction and communication with social environment. International research studies prove that during transition phases children and parents need external help. For children with special needs transition period is a particular challenge. In segmented educational system of Latvia, possibilities of successful overcoming of transition phases for children with special needs are limited because of serious deficiencies in work of pedagogical-medical committee and insufficient cooperation between school and preschool educational establishments. For ensuring the quality of transition phase there is need to perfect the cooperation system between school and parents and also the individual adaptation programme for children with special needs.
