Modernisation of the coil transport system at the hot rolled wide strip mill of Thyssen Krupp Stahl AG

Thyssen Krupp Stahl AG has completed an extensive modernisation of their hot rolled wide strip line in Bochum, Germany. The coil transport was changed from a system with vertical axis to a system with horizontal axis. The modernisation included lifting-tables, coil lifting trucks, the coil chain, walking beam conveyors, the coil lowering table, tilting device, sampling station with draft roller station, coil strapping machine, marking station and hydraulics. In addition, the automatic control and material tracking were adjusted to the new coil transport system. Coils are moved on their horizontal axis to the stock pile or to the cold rolling plants' pickling line, respectively. By modernising the coil-transport system, scratches to the coil surface were reduced. Integrating an inspection- and banding-line as well as an automatic coilmaking-station resulted in further quality improvement and cost reduction.
