Response of rainfed Indian mustard (Brassica juncea) to nitrogen and row spacing

A field experiment conducted to evaluate the 3 varieties 'TM 2' 'TM 4' and 'Varuna' of Indian mustard [Brassica juncea (L.) Czernj. & Cosson] at 2 row spacings (30 and 45 cm) and 4 levels of N (0, 40, 80 and 120 kg/ha) showed that varieties and row spacings could not influence the seed yield and yield attributes except siliqua/plant under row spacing, and 1,000-seed weight among varieties. Nitrogen application significantly increased the seed yield and almost all yield attributes up to 80 kg N/ha. On an average, the economic optimum dose of N for 'TM 2','TM 4' and 'Varuna' was 79.17, 90.93 and 76.08 kg/ha respectively.
