The control of fish diseases in the countries of the European Union

The information concerning the principles of the major fish diseases control in the countries of the European Union has been presented. On the basis of Council Directive 93/54 EEC, the differences in official measures applied to the control of fish diseases of List I (ISA), List II (VHS, IHN) and List III (IPN, SVC, BKD, furunculosis, ERM and gyrodactylosis) have been elucidated. The report has also been made on the first isolation and identification of VHS, SVC and IPN viruses (using the methods accepted in the European Union) in Poland in the Fish Disease Laboratory of the National Veterinary Institute.
