Design and Investigation of an Ultra-Wideband Antenna with Novel Feeding Mechanism

摘要
This paper has presented the design of a novel ultrawideband antenna. The proposed antenna consists of a square radiating patch and a unique feeding part. The square radiating patch is supported by four conducting posts above the ground plane. Moreover, the independent feeding portion can be regarded as a PIFA which is formed of a horizontal patch and two vertical patches with one vertical patch shorted to the ground and the other connected to the inner pin of a SMA connector. The presented antenna features characteristics of wideband performance and low profile. The obtained results can confirm that the proposed antenna has achieved a wide impedance bandwidth (vertical bar S-11 vertical bar <=-10 dB) of about 112% (1.4-5 GHz) and the whole height of the antenna is 17.5 mm (around 0.08 lambda, at the lowest operating frequency).
